I draw upon my background for every project
Know. I worked for seven years with Hall of Fame designer Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, after graduating summa cum laude from California College of the Arts (CCA) with a degree in Interior Architecture. Knowledge is the key to great interior architecture; my method is to observe a space, simplify detailing and clarify function.
Feel. I grew up on a farm, where I learned to follow the pattern of the sun, respect a sense of place, and value simplicity, integrity and slowness. The core of my design sensibility — my interest in materiality, sustainability and connection to nature – was formed in Minnesota.
Explore. I have traveled my entire adult life. The idea of exploration, of immersing myself into a culture, is what drives me in work and life. This curiosity first took me to study in Taiwan and Hong Kong, where I developed my cosmopolitan worldview and style.
Express. I worked for several years after college dressing movie sets. The goal was to tell the story visually. I learned that interiors provide the perfect stage for life. Now, when I design for a client, I work to reinforce life narratives through colors, textures and personal objects.
I hope you will join me on this journey through design.
